Top Picks for Glowy Skin

Well thankfully I am writing this post early this year as we have been blessed with a long awaited sunny spell!

In order to achieve glowy, hydrated skin, it is important to keep a regular routine by:

  • Exfoliating with body polishes, scrubs or mitts, loofahs
  • Protecting with SPF and
  • Moisturising with hydrating products

These are my top organic, natural products from Neal's Yards to help you achieve that summer glow:

First up we have the Rose and Geranium Body Polishwhich is a gentle body exfoliator made with 83% organic ingredients and naturally scented with organic essential oils. This can be used all over the body or on targeted areas where there is a build up of dead skin such as the feet, knees and elbows.

If you prefer an exfoliator which is coarser I recommend either the Seaweed Salt Scrub or the Geranium and Orange Body Scrub.

If your skin is extra dry or flaky, you may wish to dry brush your body first before you bathe and apply your body polish in the shower.  To do this, use a body brush or loofah mitt and sweep up your body towards the direction of your head.  Alternatively you could just use these once your skin is wet in the shower and apply with your shower gel.

If you are going to be out and about in the sun during the day, then you will need to use a good quality SPF cream.  Remember to reapply it every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs if you are sunbathing, gardening, out walking or sitting in a beer garden!

When buying sunscreen, the label should have:

  • a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 to protect against UVB
  • at least four-star UVA protection
  • UVA protection can also be indicated by the letters "UVA" in a circle, which indicates that it meets the EU standard.

NYR Wild Rose Body Elixir

At the end of the day, I would advise that you shower to remove dirt and grime from the day, but also to remove any SPF left on your skin.  You could use just a loofah or mitt as well.

After showering, apply a hydrating body product to moisturise your skin.

Depending on your body skin type you will want to choose one of the following products:

  • Lotions: Normal to Greasy Skin
  • Butters, Creams and Oils: for Dry to Very Dry Skin

Neal's Yard have a wide range of body products that are naturally scented with organic essential oils, so there is something for everyones texture and fragrance preferences.

Personally my favourites are the Wild Rose Body Elixir, which is an unusual gel-cream type texture which gives a gorgeous glow and smells divine.  It also contains antioxidants which help to protect the skin from free radical damage caused by the sun's UV rays, which ultimately ages and damages the skin.

If your skin is irritated by the sun, then the Calendula and Oat Body Lotion is a must have.  The smaller size of Calendula Cream or Stellaria Cream are also useful for popping in your hand bag whilst out and about.

If you enjoy making your own custom products, there is also the Unscented Face and Body Lotion, which you can add your own essential oil  blend to.  My personal fave is the Women's Blend as it smells gorgeous and also helps with stress and PMT.

If your tootsie are in need of TLC, feel free to read my At Home Spa Feet Treats Ritual  blog post.  I also offer Express and Deluxe Pedicures and Neal's Yard Feet Treats.

If your skin is in need of any full body pampering, I offer the following body treatments  which are great for getting glowy skin:

Organic Rose and Geranium Body Harmony which is exfoliation, moisturise with a relaxing back massage

Any of the Exotic Spa Treatment Exfoliation and Body Wraps

Shrinking Violet Inch Loss Wrap as the treatment involves dry exfoliation and slimming wrap with an oil based, skin nourishing product.

Well that's all folks, enjoy the sunny weather whilst it lasts!

Until next time
